Job Description

The Assistant Director/ Policy Analyst works with the CEO of Not Dead Yet to implement NDY’s policy priorities at the state and national levels as they affect legislation, regulations, legal cases, and activities of government and health care providers in the areas of assisted suicide and euthanasia, withholding and withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment, futile care policies, access to health care for people with disabilities, crisis management protocols, etc. The AD/PA will also assist the CEO to implement NDY’s strategic plan/goals, especially focusing on intersection issues that affect women, children, elders, LGBTQIA folks, BIPoC, and multicultural communities. Finally, the AD/PA will collaborate with the CEO to achieve a smooth leadership transition. Staff work remotely. Salary starting at $60,000 for a full time equivalent. Hours and salary are negotiable and may permit for reduced hours at a proportionately reduced salary level.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, review and provide comments on existing and proposed legislation, regulations and policies.
  • Monitor traditional and social media for trends or news items relevant to NDY’s priorities, and comment where appropriate.
  • Track legal cases related to NDY priorities and provide technical assistance.
  • Edit and amend policy drafts as required.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to determine needs and goals of policies and to engage community advocates in advocacy.
  • Review and evaluate research studies relevant to NDY issues.
  • Provide training and support to community groups opposing bills to legal assisted suicide.
  • Participate in public forums.
  • Write articles and blogs on NDY topics.
  • Provide testimony to legislative and government bodies.
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans and goals.
  • Work with the CEO to coordinate and supervise daily operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Monitor attainment of objectives.
  • Undertake staffing responsibilities (hiring, training, evaluating, etc.).
  • Assist in budgeting and monitoring expenses.
  • Represent organization in meetings and with media.
  • Fulfill duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to disability justice and intersectional issues.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of legislative and rulemaking processes affecting policies.
  • Proven organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Good interpersonal and social skills.
  • Exceptional team player with a strong ability to contribute positively to a team environment.
