The Spoof: Euthanasia Man Wanted to Live

The Spoof is a web publication specializing in satire and humor. Quality-wise, I’ve found it to be kind of hit-and-miss, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Edgy humor can sometimes miss the mark – or at least end up not hitting everyone who reads it as funny.

Spoof writer MonkeyInTheBath decided last year’s seemingly never-ending stories about elderly, ill and disabled Brits going on one-way Swiss suicide trips were overdue for some satirical treatment:

Euthanasia man wanted to live

A man was killed by his family because they believed he wanted euthanasia to end his suffering.

Mr Dan Kilmeov was taken by his family to a clinic Switzerland where doctors administered life-ending medicine, more commonly known as poison.

It is thought that Mr Kilmeov’s wife misinterpreted a comment he made, when he said “Oh, I could die for a curry right now”. Mrs Kilmeov immediately booked flights to Switzerland and had her husband killed. She had help from the euthanasia promotions company, DignityMyAss.

There’s more to the article, but you should go read the rest of it here.

This article was published in early December. I can’t wait to see if MonkeyInTheBath or some other Spoof writer tackles the latest about the accusations of profiteering leveled against Dignitas (aka “DignityMyAss”). –Stephen Drake

  1. Awesome satire, thanks for sharing it with us. This one definitely “hit the mark” for me. There is a similar publication called the Onion that is distributed in the midwest.

  2. I have come to this site simply because I support Euthanasia so much so I want to adorn my caravan with a witty saying showing my support. Where is a sight showing me all the rally sayings…..Advertising on a moving object would have to be the best form of advertising!!! I am a healthy 37 year old but nursed for 10 years. 10 years latter still nothing has changed about our laws, but then nothing has changed about our advertising of the fact. The Australian story placard I saw gave me the idea of looking on the web – but to no avail have I yet crossed any signage, stickers and even on that show they said you can get a t-shirt but “going to ‘that shows’ web site no dittos are able to be seen. “Let me die like a dog” is the saying that took me there. Something like “it’s true it’s a dogs world – just let me die like one will make me happy – is the sort of thing I’m after; any ideas

  3. Dear Kerry,

Do you actually read what’s on a site before commenting? If you had, you’d have noticed that we’re *opposed* to euthanasia. I certainly hope no patients were harmed during your ten years as a nurse by similarly sloppy reading – of medical instructions or prescription labels.

A while ago, this site visited the topic of pet euthanasia. Not the *how* they get killed (although some of the techniques in shelters aren’t that humane) but *why* they get killed. Relatively few get killed because they’re suffering from painful terminal illnesses. More likely, they’re no longer “fun,” the owner can’t afford to keep or treat them, they’re peeing on the rug, etc.

So maybe the signs you’re looking for are these:

    Kill me when I’m incontinent

Kill me when my relatives think I’m a burden

Kill me when my relatives are worried my medical costs will use up their inheritance

    Hope these are helpful.
